Monsanto is upgraded by S&P; US patents issued to Monsanto up on average 47% over the last three years

Standard & Poor's upgraded the long term ratings for Monsanto (MON; 85.24) citing in particular the strong market position of the company. In line with S&P evaluation, the patent portfolio of Monsanto has been growing at an impressive rate over the last three years. The number of US patents issued to Monsanto increased by an average of 47% a year over that period. The bulk of the patents are well aligned with Monsanto's business being directed at plants and plant seeds and various molecular genetic techniques to improve plants properties.
